Good Italian places are scarce in the Valley.  Many times, I have walked in to a promising-looking place, only to be disappointed, sometimes gravely so.
Up to the point that I walked into Tony's, only DeFalco's in Scottsdale made the cut for the fresh, homemade taste and quality I grew up with.  Now, Tony's joins the list.  I know a real Italian sauce when I taste one--they have it!  Forget the plate--an aluminum tray with pasta, this sauce, a meatball, a salad, and a hunk of garlic bread, is all you need to make you happy.  The sandwich I had here was the best I have tasted in ten years--I haven't had one this good since my last visit to Little Lucca in South San Francisco, CA a decade ago.
Don't expect anything fancy.  It's an old place, been here for 50 years.  Fresh meats and cheeses in the display, narrow aisles piled with foods and drinks, imports galore.  They got two tables outside to eat at--that's it.  No problem--I got my pasta, that's all I need.  Seeing old Italian men and women coming in, speaking with accents to order lunch, almost brought tears to my eyes.  It's the real thing.
Don't go to a fancy place and spend $100 on canned sauce and noodles.  They make it fresh every day and sell it for a great price.  Go here.  Mangia.  It doesn't get any better in Phoenix than Tony's

Come to Tony's Italian Delicatessen if you're in the PHX area!
There's all sorts of cool items from candy, pasta and drinks from Italy!
Order a sandwich while you're at it! And pick up a few items to take home with you!
    Parking is good!
It's a little piece of Italy here in the AZ desert!

Another overrated place for sandwiches and possible sanitary violations. The old lady making the monster sandwich was not using gloves. I only noticed as she was grabbing the cheese slices with her claws.
Turkey  - not the best quality. Opulent
Cheese - this was a giant sub that received only two small squares of Provolone
Produce: lettuce was brown and the tomatoes were end cut pieces.
Bread - the best part. Very soft, but needed better quality ingredients.

No chicken cutlets and a 20 minute wait for takeout pasta, which would be a reason to give it one more try.

Okay I did not take pictures of my food but the sandwiches were so good. The bread was fresh and soft, I ordered the Italian hero and it did not disappoint. My husband got the special Italian and he was also really good and they were not chimpsy on the meat. We also had their homemade spumoni ice cream which was really good. There is only outside seating so I recommend getting it to go especially this time of year, we sat outside but was so hot we scarfed down half the sandwich then saved the rest for later.

Amazing little deli. You can get almost everything italian here from cold cuts to sandwiches to desserts. Lots of grocery items from Italy too. Prices?  Super reasonable !!
I had the Italian special with an amazing array of meats including Prosciutto.  I wish it had more vinegar since I wanted oil and vinegar instead of mayo or mustard. Oil and vegan is classic to an Italian combo. Wish the bread was crustier too but hey with their pricing I shouldn't be asking for anything more.  I should just zip it up!
I had the last piece of Tiramisu and it was super yummy.  Tasted fresh even though it was the last piece.
Charming folks run the place which makes it extra special to come here.
